Edinburgh restaurant listed as world's seventh oldest

The Sheep Heid Inn in Edinburgh has been listed as the world's seventh oldest restaurant on a newly compiled world food map.

Researchers set out to identify the most ancient dining venue in every country in the world alongside its signature dish.

Duddingston's The Sheep Heid dates back to 1360 and King James VI and his mother Mary Queen of Scots are said to have been patrons.

The team from online lender Netcredit ranked it at No7 with prime steak with rustic chips, roasted mushroom, confit tomato and parsley butter as its top-rated dish on Tripadvisor.

The oldest was St Peter Stifts Kulinarium in Austria, dating back to 803 with its speciality of tafelspitz -boiled beef with minced apple & horseradish.
