Edinburgh restaurant launches deep-fried creme egg as part of new Easter menu

An Edinburgh restaurant have unveiled their latest Easter creation, which is none other than a deep fried creme egg.

The new treat is not one for the faint-hearted, and has been created to satisfy sweet tooths across the capital for a limited time.

Launched by McLarens on the Corner, the Bruntsfield eatery will be serving up the eggs as part of their new Easter menu, which will include a range of themed dishes.

Created by the restaurant's development chef, Emma Clark-Szabo, the dish has been named a 'Sweet Scotch Egg', due to the fact it is also wrapped in brownie and cookie dough before being fried.

Described as an "indulgent" treat, McLarens will be serving the eggs from their Scranavan this weekend from Good Friday until Easter Sunday alongside bubble waffles and other savoury snacks.

The recipe has also been posted online for chocolate-lovers to attempt at home, and includes rolling the creme egg and brownie bowl in cornflakes before sticking it in a deep fat fryer.

You can find the full recipe here.

Alongside the food van, the restaurant are also running an interactive Easter egg hunt for families across Edinburgh, with participants asked to follow a virtual trail and complete the challenges around Morningside.

Kicking off on Good Friday (April 2), the trail will see local children take part in a challenge to find 10 eggs which will be hidden in and around Morningside.

After following the trail, families will also be able to take part in the activity attached to each egg, and once completed, kids can claim their prizes back at the restaurant.
