Edinburgh restaurant disappointed as diner complains staff were 'dithering'

Restaurant bosses in Edinburgh have expressed their disappointment after receiving a customer complained staff were 'dithering' and had their backs to the table.

The frustrated diners visited the Hawes Inn, at South Queensferry in February when they splashed out on the Valentine's Day set menu. The couple were gutted to find out there was no seabass left at 7.30pm and did not enjoy the sharing platter starter.

Overall they slammed the experience at the renovated restaurant and warned that the eatery needs to 'up its game' as there are many local options now.

The fuming customer wrote: "We picked the Hawes Inn for Valentine's menu as it looked good. We arrived 7.30pm and were shown to our seats without a menu.

"Alarm bells started ringing when nobody approached us for 20 minutes regarding a drink, it was another 10 minutes before it came. We ordered food, the starter was a sharing platter a bit disappointing. For our main course we wanted seabass but there was none left at 7.30pm.

"It was very disappointing the staff were dithering with no direction, when the food came they had to get the correct cutlery. The staff constantly had their back to us. My steak got pass marks but the pannacotta was shocking."

They continued: "My bill was just under £100 and got nowhere near my expectations. As locals, there is a lot of competition now and on this showing, the Hawes will have to up their game."

Meanwhile, management responded: "Hi Bigrabby, thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent experience. We are disappointed to hear that you are not satisfied with your visit."

The Hawes Inn, Queensferry is a three-and-a-half-star restaurant and B&B next to the Forth Bridges. It recently underwent a stunning makeover and offers delicious food that champions local ingredients.

One happy customer shared: "Always a good sign when a place is busy on a Sunday lunchtime! Booking is highly recommended as it looked full when we were seated.

"Great choice of roast dinners available. We had roast chicken (moist with crispy skin) and the beef (perfect pink and well seasoned)."

Another said: "Excellent lunch with family. We had booked a table for lunch. We were seven adults and one child.

"Alison looked after us during our visit and was on the ball. We all had food and drinks, our party was four meat eaters and three vegetarians.

"We all enjoyed our meals and did not feel rushed. All in all, it was an enjoyable relaxed lunch and we will return."
