Edinburgh residents urged to get jags as deadly 'flurona' spreads across country

Edinburgh residents are being urged to get their flu jab and third Covid-19 vaccine as new cases of ‘ flurona’ are spreading across the country.

Concerned health bosses say that people are catching the flu and coronavirus together, with more than 160 cases being reported by the UK Health and Security Agency.

Now the health officials claim that people infected with both viruses are twice as likely to die as a result.

The first case was discovered in Israel and scientist are now trying to discover how dangerous it is.

Nottinghamshire Live reports that getting vaccinated for both illnesses was discussed during a board meeting at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust.

Lucy Hubber, Nottingham’s public health director, said: “We’ve been concerned all along with how Covid might interact with other, particularly infectious diseases.

She said: “We know that people who have other underlying conditions, particularly those that affect their immunity or affect their respiratory system, are more at risk of serious illness with Covid.

“As we are in flu season then there is clearly a risk there. What we know is that the flu vaccine is effective and the Covid vaccine is effective.

”But we are not seeing a significant problem with the comorbidity at the moment but it is really important, particularly for the more vulnerable groups, they take the opportunity to get vaccinated.”
