Edinburgh residents shout as police with tasers swarm city centre street

Dramatic footage has emerged of armed police swarming a vehicle in Edinburgh’s City Centre.

The shocking incident occurred in broad daylight at around 5.30 pm on Friday, September 3.

In a video seen by Edinburgh Live, multiple police officers with tasers can be seen swooping in on the car in the Picardy Place area of Edinburgh.

Shocked onlookers can be heard asking “What is going on?” as the driver is removed from the vehicle.

Police Scotland confirmed to Edinburgh Live that they intercepted the car off London Road as part of an ongoing firearms investigation.

They confirmed that no arrests were made and that there is no threat to Edinburgh locals.

This incident caused travel delays, with Lothian buses having to divert a number of services away from Picardy Place.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.30pm on Friday, 3 September, officers carried out a controlled stop of a vehicle in London Road, Edinburgh.

“This activity was in relation to an ongoing firearms police investigation. No-one has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing. There was no threat to the wider community."
