However, James told us that Ken used to tell him that "there was more to life than the pub."

"Ken used to tell me all about his fights and how it used to be tiring going to South America with all of the heat and I used to start watching his videos against other boxers."

James went onto say that the great boxer was a big fan of Neil Diamond and actually nicknamed him 'Mr Diamond', he said: "I used to call him Mr Diamond because he loved Neil Diamond because that is what he used to sing."

Originally from Glasgow and now living in Edinburgh, Neil Roseweir, 75 came down to the Ken Buchanan statue and said: "I came down to say a fond farewell and pay my respects to a great boxer."

He went onto reminisce about key moments in the boxers career, he said: "The fight against Duran, were Duran hit him below the belt, that was unfair but he seemed to bounce back from that and go on to succeed."

"I can't see why people wouldn't be proud of him and I am proud of him."
