Edinburgh residents look on in horror as car bursts into flames on busy road

Emergency services have raced to a busy Edinburgh road after a car burst into flames on Sunday afternoon (August 22).

Onlookers from a bus passing the scene near Telford Road captured the shocking images, as the vehicle continued to be completely engulfed by flames.

Stopped on the road at a junction on Maidencraig Crescent, thick black smoke can be seen billowing out of the car, with the scene around the vehicle appearing clear.

After racing to the scene shortly after 1.50pm, the Scottish Fire and Rescue service were able to use one appliance to extinguish the blaze as quickly as possible.

According to a statement from the service, there were thankfully no injuries or casualties from the sudden incident.

According to eyewitness reports, long queues of traffic have now built up along the A902 heading into Edinburgh city centre as crews attempt to clear the wreckage.

Any drivers heading along the A902 and Telford Road should expect delays and allow extra time for their journey.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a vehicle alight on Maidencraig Crescent, Edinburgh, at 1:51pm. One fire appliance was mobilised to the scene.

"Crews remain in attendance. There were no persons involved."
