Edinburgh residents left gutted as much loved local pet shop announces closure

A popular Edinburgh pet shop has sadly announced that "with a heavy heart" they will be closing their doors for good.

House of Hound in Roseburn has run for nine years, offering food, toys and sacks for dogs in the area. It has built up a loyal customer base and as the owner announced the store's future, many flocked to the comments to share their sadness.

In the social media post, House of Hound said "we are all crying" and thanked everyone who supported the business through the years, noting the challenges that came with the pandemic and roadworks in Roseburn.

But while customers shared how sad they were to hear the news, House of Hound has shared that Hordeum Botanical Studio/ Disposition Coffee are looking to take over the lease and "keep the doggy dream alive".

House of Hound wrote on Facebook: "Today, with a heavy heart I want to let all you lovely people know that we will be closing the doors of House of Hound on the April 15.

"First and foremost I want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to every one of you that has visited the store over the past nine years, and made it what it was, I had wanted a shop of my own from a very young age, and I was able to do it through your support and kindness.

"I want to thank the team that held my hand and laughed and cried with me, through thick and thin, marriages, births, Christmas parties and some great times, and through the sudden loss of my lovely mum and grandmother in 2019, the loss of my beautiful Louis and Stella, through two years of covid and the last year of roadworks.

"I love you all. Bryony, Hannah, Kat, Angel, Elena, Ollie, Niamh, and Rachel. You're crying, I'm crying, we are all crying! I cannot thank you enough."

They added: "Of course, because the dogs mean so much to us, we couldn't leave them hanging. We have been working steadily to ensure there is a succession plan and your dogs will still have a doggy emporium to visit on Roseburn Terrace. The lovely team Hordeum Botanical Studio | Disposition Coffee are working hard to take on the lease and keep the doggy dream alive!

"Finally, and importantly, I am starting a new chapter in April... I have a shop full and everything must go, so get down here and get shopping. Please give us your support through the last few weeks and help House of Hound end with the same bang as when we opened. It's been a blast!"

One customer said: "Sad to hear another good business is leaving Roseburn. All the very best for your future, cheers."

Another said: "What a fantastic job you have done over those nine years; it’s our loss. I hope all your plans go well, I can’t imagine they won’t. Farewell."

"Oh no! Scruffy and I will miss you!" A third said.
