Edinburgh residents fume after contents of entire flat fly tipped on pavement

An Edinburgh street was left looking extremely cluttered after someone had decided to have a rather large New Years clear out.

Almost the entire interior of a property had been left ditched on the pavement in Oxgangs next to a set of recycling bins in the hope of being recovered.

Ignoring the rules around disposing of large items, the culprits had piled up a number of white goods, ranging from a dishwasher to a cooker and washing machine.

A couch and chairs had also been left behind, along with what appeared to be a children's doll house and four life-size doors.

The dumping ground is the latest of many fly-tipping incidents across the city, with the behaviour increasing throughout Edinburgh during the pandemic.

Sharing a series of images of the mess behind Oxgangs Avenue, Councillor Scott Arthur told Edinburgh Live:

"Fly-tipping is a selfish behaviour which blights many communities in Edinburgh, and the Council's own data shows it is increasing year-on-year and has almost doubled since 2017.

"The Council will soon bring forward a strategy I requested to deal with the issue, and I hope better enforcement and free uplift of bulky items for low-income households is at least part of the solution."
