Edinburgh residents disgusted as Morningside play park defaced by 'immature' vandals

Residents of Morningside in Edinburgh were left disgusted after immature vandals plastered offensive graffiti on a children's play park in the area.

Peter Thomas, who posted photographs of the graffiti on a popular Facebook community page for the Morningside neighbourhood, was left less than impressed after he spotted the wording on the play park equipment.

He posted on Facebook: "If you're heading to Morningside Play Park with your children today....make sure they're not old enough to read."

One commenter wrote: "Immature behaviour, doubtless carried out by juveniles. How immature! How juvenile!

"It's been like this for all time."

Another said: "Why? That is a great park why do some scum have to spoil it."

Further comments read: "That's disgusting to do that to a kids playground".

The play equipment was daubed with paint (play park)

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Peter said: "Although I know vandalism has always happened, it's still an expensive, insulting nuisance to those that have to see it in their neighbourhood.

"Maybe once the vandal is identified the courts can send someone to graffiti the inside and outside of their home and see how they like it."

In the photos, the word 'b***s' can be seen spray-painted over the slide, swing set and even over signage and public waste bins.

Obscene phrases are also tagged onto the benches next to the playground equipment, where parents sit while letting their children play.

In December, Edinburgh Live reported that an Edinburgh charity was forced to close its DIY SOS play area after it was targeted by vandals.

The equipment was donated to the Edinburgh charity for disabled children as part of a star-studded DIY SOS makeover, but it was torched by the sick vandals.

Some of the apparatus has been so heavily damaged that will be closed off for months, potentially into spring this year, in order to be repaired, to the detriment of disabled kids and their families.

The non-profit organisation had been celebrating its 35th anniversary of providing play for children from all walks of life.
