Some locals have been left unimpressed by recent Spaces for People initiatives as a new traffic calming measure was branded 'brutal clutter'.
There was confusion about the purpose of new addition to Hillside Crescent, with locals questioning what it was hoped it would achieve.
But Edinburgh Council have confirmed it's intended to reduce the speed of cars turning into the junction from London Road.
Pictures of the new installation show the temporary materials have narrowed the entrance, which is intended to increase the safety of cyclists.
A report by the City of Edinburgh Council said when the restrictions were imposed that the measures were temporary.
"It is proposed to introduce temporary infrastructure improvements to provide significant safety and desirability enhancements for people choosing to cycle along the A1 as part of the Spaces for People programme.
"Pedestrian improvements and street clutter removal along the corridor have also been considered and, where feasible, have been integrated into the proposals.
"These measures have been developed alongside plans for new or enhanced public transport priority," the report said.

One person explained that whilst "ugly", it allowed the measure to be trialled.
Anthony Robson said on Twitter: "Shortens the crossing slightly when walking and makes it a slightly tighter arc for driving so it has to be taken more slowly.
"Puts pedestrians at the top of the hierarchy. Ugly, but allows it to be tested [and] if to be permanent would presumably just be an extension of the pavement."
