Edinburgh residents concerned over flooding from burst water main near local park and school

Edinburgh residents have been left concerned about flooding from a burst water main near a local park and school.

The Scottish Water mains pipe on Fernieside Drive burst, flooding the local park and streets whilst covering the pavements with mess.

Many residents have been concerned about the hygiene and danger of the flooding due to the proximity of the route children will take tomorrow morning.

The pictures show the water from the leaking mains pipe soaking the grass area nearby and the path covered with the discoloured liquid which appears to have dirt floating around in it.

Local resident Liz Spence said: “There is a burst water main which Scottish water says does not belong to them and nothing can get done until tomorrow.

“Children have to use this path in the morning to go to and back from school, the last picture is in the green space in front of my house, so you can see how far it’s travelled.

“It doesn’t smell so I don’t think it’s sewage, but I was wary about walking through it.

“The burst water pipe is in Fernieside avenue, which is the other side of Fernieside Drive and this is the main access pathway from Fernieside area to old Dalkeith Road. Like I said, lots of children have to use this path and also people need access pathways to their homes.”

She added: “Half of the playing field is like a marsh.”

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We are aware of flooding at this location and will have an engineer on site as soon as possible to investigate the cause.”
