Edinburgh resident unimpressed as parked police car blocks off their bins

An unimpressed Edinburgh resident snapped a photo of a parked police car "blocking their bins" while attending a call this week.

The vehicle was seen stopped on Spey Terrace in Leith around 1pm on Monday, with one local man none too pleased with the way it had been left.

He says the street is something of a problem area for parking, being one of the closest to the city centre where no permit is required, and he fears it's only a matter of time before the bins end up being out of reach on collection day.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed his disappointment at the example set by police on Monday, adding: "If it was an emergency call I could understand it, but if this was just a routine call you would expect them to park more considerately."

Police Scotland say officers are allowed to park in prohibited areas during the course of their duties, when necessary.

A spokesperson said: “Officers are encouraged to park considerately as well as lawfully.

"When necessary, in the course of their duties, police vehicles are able to park in otherwise prohibited areas.

"If a member of the public wishes to make a complaint they can contact Police Scotland.”
