Edinburgh records more than 300 new Covid cases amid warning from Humza Yousaf

Scotland has recorded seven coronavirus deaths and 3,367 new cases in the past 24 hours, the latest Scottish Government figures show.

It brings the death toll under the daily measure - of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - to 8,058.

NHS Lothian reported a rise of more than a hundred cases from Wednesday's figures, with 577 infections recorded in the latest reporting period.

The figures come as health secretary Humza Yousaf urged Scotland to remain vigilant and continue following basic measures to curb the spread of the disease.

The daily test positivity rate is 9.0 per cent, up from 7.5 per cent the previous day.

Edinburgh alone accounted for 374 of NHS Lothian's positive cases, with West Lothian on 128, East Lothian on 55 and Midlothian on 48.

A total of 317 people were in hospital on Wednesday with recently confirmed Covid-19, down seven on the previous day, with 33 patients in intensive care, down six.

So far, 4,068,806 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccination and 3,512,673 have received their second dose.

Reacting to the figures on Twitter, Yousaf posted: "A rise in cases not unexpected as we significantly ease restrictions, however it should still serve as a reminder that virus is with us.
