Coronavirus cases have surged substantially over the last week in Edinburgh, as the First Minister poured cold water on plans for a circuit breaker lockdown across the country.
Edinburgh recorded a 3,253 cases in the last week, with a seven-day positivity rate of 616.5. This is almost 200 above the threshold for a Level Four lockdown.
Today, 13,998 new vaccinations were reported across the country, which is a decrease from from yesterday's figure of 14,963. This was made up of 2,615 first doses, and 11,383 second doses.
In total, 75 per cent of the entire Scottish population has had their first dose, and 66.6 per cent have had both doses. In the past 7 days alone, 2.2 per cent of Scotland has received a dose.
In Scotland, eight people have died in the last 24-hours after testing positive for the virus.
Two more people are in intensive care with coronavirus, bringing the total up to 49.
At yesterday's briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said "We can’t and shouldn’t rule anything out in the midst of a pandemic, none of us want to go backwards to even limited restrictions.
"But we cannot ignore the current surge in cases either. My job in times like these is not to be popular - it is to take any decisions, no matter how difficult, that are necessary to keep us safe."
Across Scotland a total of 5,858 new cases were confirmed in the last 24-hours, with test positivity at 14.2 per cent.
