Edinburgh ramen restaurant on BBC's Britain's Best Takeaways opens second city venue

A popular Edinburgh restaurant which has recently found fame after revealing it will star on a BBC food show has announced the opening of a new branch in the city.

Ikigai Ramen is competing with food spots across the country on the brand new BBC Two cookery series 'Britain's Best Takeaways'.

The team will be battling with various restaurants around the UK in an 'ultimate fry-off' and they're urging Edinburgh locals to 'tune in on the 19th of May at 8pm for the episode where chefs Michael and Gabriel give it their all!'

And in the past 24 hours, they've started welcoming in customers to their new Southbridge branch, expanding after the success of their maiden venue in Newington.

A post shared on social media confirmed: "You may have seen us but now it’s official! Come find us on Southbridge - open from tomorrow onwards serving up delicious ramen, an awesome new expanded menu and even cocktails and Japanese beers!"

According to Ikigai's website, the restaurant aims for, "bouncy, chewy, soft and perfect for slurping up our authentic broth, cooked over 8 hours for maximum flavour. Alongside this, we source only fresh high quality ingredients to bring you some of the tastiest ramen in town.

"We incorporate the Japanese concept of Ikigai which translates to 'reason to live'.

"Ikigai is about finding a sense of purpose in life, something that propels you out of bed each morning ready to live fully."

Presented by Sara Cox and Darren Harriot, each episode of Britain's Top Takeaways will see five of the nations’ award winning, highly rated and creative takeaways will compete in their own cuisine, cooking and delivering some of the finest take out the UK has to offer.

There is a whole range of different takeaways to choose from, fish and chips to pizza and even some Mexican action. Judging the food and deciding who wins will be a host of takeaway-loving families who will eat, rate and score the food from the comfort of their own homes.

Earlier this week, we reported on fellow Edinburgh competitors Sabzi admitting they were "gutted" after Tuesday's episode (May 10) of BBC Two's Britain's Top Takeaway, which saw them miss out on the top spot.

The much loved family run restaurant in Edinburgh created some great meals as they incorporated traditional Indian dishes with classic Scots dishes giving it a unique twist.

However it wasn't meant to be for the eatery representing Scotland with the mum and son duo, who hoped to come first place, ended up finishing in fourth with a total score of 19 points.

You can tune into Britain's Top Takeaways on BBC Two to support Ikigai Ramen on May 19 at 8pm.
