Edinburgh rail chaos as strikes lead to loss or reduction in train services

A new set of rail strikes are expected to impact Edinburgh travellers with services disrupted today as well as on Friday (June 2) and Saturday (June 3).

Many major railways are running reduced services and some are having to cancel routes altogether due to the strike action.

The disruption comes from an ongoing pay dispute that has seen the government and unions ASLEF and RMT at loggerheads over a pay dispute.

Both unions feel as though the pay offers put on the table by the government have been inadequate.

Despite commuters being impacted by months of train cancellations and disruption, union bosses maintain that there is support for their industrial action both among their members and the general public.

ASLEF has also informed their drivers that there is an overtime ban for ASLEF drivers on Thursday, June 1. Edinburgh travellers will be most affected by the reduced timetables that will be in place across LNER services over the three days.

TransPennine have said that no routes will run on Wednesday whilst Cross Country will also be unable to operate any routes across both Wednesday and Saturday.
