Edinburgh puppy tragically killed in hit-and-run as police hunt for driver

A puppy has been killed after it was struck by a vehicle on Queens Drive in Edinburgh.

Police have now launched a search to find the driver of the vehicle after it failed to stop once a collision had occurred.

While out on a walk in Holyrood Park with it's owner on Friday (April 9), the nine-month old Cocker Spaniel had been distracted by a nearby bird and began to run towards Queens Drive.

Tragically, the puppy was then struck by a car, however the driver failed to stop after the incident, which is said to have happened at around 7pm.

A short time later, the dog sadly died from its injuries, with officers now looking for the driver.

Any witnesses with information or who may have seen the collision take place have been asked to get in contact with the police as soon as possible.

Sergeant Stuart Powell said: “The dog’s owner had been walking in Holyrood Park, when the dog started chasing a bird. She was struck by the car on Queens Drive and the driver of the vehicle didn’t stop at the time.

“I would ask any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information that may help us identify the vehicle involved to contact officers through 101 quoting reference number 3198 of 9 April.”
