A Scots pubgoer has penned an apology letter after snatching an Edinburgh bar’s Covid thermometer on a boozy day out.
The person, who has named themselves “The Very Sorry Plate Thief”, said they embarrassed with themselves after drinking “copious amounts of wine and cocktails ” at The Huxley bar in the capital earlier this month.
Things escalated as the night progressed as the anonymous drinker said that they woke up with the pub’s thermometer which is used to carry out checks for potential coronavirus at the door.
As the person went to get a cab up the road, they said that they attempted to take away their burger while it was still on the plate.

Bar staff are said to have “chased” the person and managed to grab it off them before they fled the scene with the crockery.
The punter said that they had “many regrets” about their actions and penned The Huxley a letter to say sorry.
The letter was also accompanied by the stolen thermometer and a selection of sweet treats.
It read: “I was at your establishment over the weekend having a beautiful time.
“I had been drinking throughout the day, to the point of many regrets. After copious amounts of wine and cocktails, I somehow became extremely infatuated with one of your thermometers and in that process, decided it would be a brilliant idea to take it home with me.
“According to my friends, after a few more drinks in your outdoor seating area, I was very loud, disruptive and acting in a way that I am genuinely embarrassed about and probably will be for the rest of my days.
“The next part of the story, I have no recollection of, I am told that upon our Uber arriving to save your employees from us, I attempted to take my burger away with me while it was still on a plate.
“As a result, I was running through the streets manically being chased by one of your very brave employees trying to retrieve said plate. Thankfully he got to me in time and recovered it safe and sound.”

The letter added: “I wanted to write to formally apologise to you all and would have come in to apologise in person but I am currently too ashamed over my drunken antics.
“Please accept my sincere apology for any upset or offence caused by my actions and know that this will never happen again.”
Staff at The Huxley bar saw the funny side to the letter and urged the anonymous punter come back soon.
“Dear “The very sorry plate thief”, they wrote.
“We get it…we are all excited to get back out to the pub…it’s been too long and we’ve missed you all too.
“You came, you saw and you conquered that burger.
“We rock and we absolutely accept your apology. We will see you soon.”
