Edinburgh pub-goers urged by Nicola Sturgeon to 'check in' when visiting city's bars

Edinburgh pub-goers are being urged to "check in" when visiting the city's bars as they reopen.

Nicola Sturgeon wants people to make use of a new app called Check In Scotland which allows customers to show they've visited certain premises such as restaurants, hairdressers, and pubs.

The aim is that it'll help halt the spread of Covid as NHS Scotland's contact tracing team use the data to identify potential close contacts of cases, as people are told to self-isolate if they've been in close proximity to somebody with the virus.

People are able to use it by downloading the app from their app store. They'll then be able to scan a Test and Protect QR code on display in premises.

Sturgeon is urging people to make full use of the app, which has only just become available.

She posted to social media: "If you are planning on visiting a pub, cafe or restaurant when hospitality starts to re-open from Monday, please download and use the new NHS Scotland check-in app. It will make it easier for Test and Protect to get in touch with you if you might have been exposed to the virus."

You can download the Check In Scotland app on the Google Play Store and Apple Store.
