Images show three merpeople topless with their blue scaled tales laying across the steps to Bute House strewn in rubbish from the ocean.
Behind them stand two people in yellow fisherman type rain jackets holding large signs one reading: “no more fish in the sea.”
The demonstrators gathered from around 4pm in their ocean themed outfits and powerful signs to make a statement outside Nicola Sturgeon’s Edinburgh residence.
Many environmental protests have been taking place across Scotland this week as the United Nation Climate Change Conference is held in Glasgow.
Hillary who snapped the pictures wrote: “Demo outside Bute House just now protesting about bottom dredging and bottom trawling.
“Exciting! Practicing being a press photographer! The protesters are #oceanrebellion .”
The powerful pictures gained hundreds of likes and dozens of comments on Facebook.
Donald McPhillimy said: “You don't see a bevy of mermaids on the steps of Bute House every day. Not tangled up in mesh anyway. Good action. Sharp message.”
Matthew Trewin exclaimed: “Awesome! Can't believe bottom dredging has ever been allowed.”
While Kalina Le Marquand said: “Incredibly powerful demonstration.”
