Edinburgh property: Stunning flat inside an old chocolate factory hits the market

A stunning two-bedroom flat inside an old Edinburgh chocolate factory has hit the market looking for offers over £260,000.

Located minutes from the popular Portobello seaside, the property is in a highly sought-after area and there is an incredible history behind the building too.

The apartment is roomy and the huge windows in the lounge and dining area allow natural light to flood in and illuminate the space. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and there is a parking space available in the private car park.

The double bedrooms have been decorated with colourful tones that give the rooms a quirky feel while there are many classic furnishings throughout the home that keep it sophisticated.

Located inside a huge red brick building which was once a German-owned chocolate factory, the flat has a fascinating history that spans the last 100 years.

Charles Schulze's Portobello chocolate factory operated in the early 1900s but the German national was forced to give up his business following the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.

The Schulze family, Charles and his three sons had built the luxury Belgian chocolate factory, which was located in the Portobello district of Edinburgh, from the ground up in 1905.

However, within just 10 short years, the military had been sent in to send the factory workers back to Germany - and the Schulze family to war.

In 1922, the WM Ramsay Technical Institute began operating from the building, and in recent years the red brick building now protected with a Category A listing has been converted for residential use. You can read ore about the history here.

Annan Solicitors who are marketing the property write: "Inchview Terrace is an impressive, two bedroom first floor flat forming part of an exclusive residential development, set within the former Ramsay Technical Institute.

"Situated a short walk from Portobello Beach, Promenade and High Street the property is entered through a well-maintained communal stair, via a secure door entry system with lift access."
