Edinburgh prop Javan Sebastian could miss start of Six Nations for Scotland

Edinburgh prop Javan Sebastian could miss the start of this season’s Six Nations as a result of the knee injury he sustained in his team’s Challenge Cup victory over Castres last week. “Javan will be out for six to eight weeks,” coach Sean Everitt said yesterday.

Sebastian, 29, was one of three tightheads selected for last year’s Rugby World Cup along with his Edinburgh team-mate WP Nel and Glasgow’s Zander Fagerson. Nel missed out on the home win over Castres but has been passed fit to play against the Warriors at Scotstoun in Friday night’s first 1872 Cup match, as has Argentine back-three star Emiliano Boffelli, who has been out of action because of injury since the semi-final of the Rugby World Cup.

Lock forward Jamie Hodgson, however, has been added to the capital club’s injury list and will miss both the Friday game and the second leg at Murrayfield on Saturday 30th. “Jamie will be out until the second week of January,” Everitt added.

Meanwhile, Sam Skinner has signed a new two-year contract. The 28-year-old Scotland international has yet to play this season because of a knee injury, but he could be back for the home game against the Warriors.

“It’s been a frustrating period for me personally as I was really excited to get back and contribute to the team, but these things happen sometimes,” said Skinner, who moved north from Exeter Chiefs in the summer of 2022. “I’ve loved being back out on the training field with the lads recently and can’t wait to get stuck in when my opportunity comes.

“Moving to Edinburgh has definitely been a new challenge and one I’ve absolutely loved. It’s so exciting to be given the opportunity to sign for another two years.”
