Edinburgh Princes Street closed due to huge fire as emergency services race to scene

Emergency services are currently dealing with a building fire on Edinburgh's Princes Street.

The route has been closed to traffic between Frederick Street and South Charlotte Street in the city centre.

Emergency services such as police and fire crews are on the scene, outside the empty Debenhams store, with the road taped off to the public.

Several fire engines and incident response units are stopped on both Princes Street and the nearby Castle Street as crews attempt to make the area safe. It is not yet known if there are any injuries.

Lothian Buses say a host of their services are disrupted, with vehicles unable to serve Princes Street in both directions between Charlotte Square and Frederick Street. They are instead diverted via Charlotte Square, George Square and Frederick Street until further notice.

Stagecoach East Scotland also tweeted to say that they were diverting services. They posted: "Due to an incident, Princes Street has been closed in both directions between Frederick Street and Charlotte Street. Our services are diverting via George Street and Queensferry Street; Princes Street stop PU can't be served at this time. Delays are expected."

Edinburgh Live has contacted Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for more information.
