Edinburgh primary school confirms Covid case as some staff and kids self-isolate

An Edinburgh primary school has confirmed a "number of people" have been contacted following a positive Covid case.

A case was confirmed at St. Catherine’s RC Primary, parents and guardians were told on Tuesday (March 16).

As a result, NHS' Trace and Protect team has contacted a number of people who will be told to self-isolate to control a potential outbreak.

One parent at the school, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "It concerns me that there is a case as throughout lockdown we heard classmates in my children’s classes talking about sleepovers and meeting up with all their friends."

A message from Mr. Hunter, St. Catherine’s RC Primary School and NHS Lothian read:

"We are aware of person in the school who has tested positive for COVID-19. We understand that this is a worrying time but would like to reassure you that we are working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.

"A number of people are currently being contacted because they may have been in close and sustained contact with the case and will need to self isolate. They will be given appropriate guidance and advice.

"An update via text and email will be sent to you as soon as the tracking and tracing process is complete.

Mr Hunter added that enhanced cleaning and infection control measures are in place in line with national guidance but that the school remains open and is safe.

Parents and guardians who have not been contacted to be told their child is a close contact are to send attend them to school as normal.
