Edinburgh power cut: Incident at substation knocks out electricity supply

An incident at an electricity substation caused a power cut in the south of Edinburgh on Tuesday morning.

Locals reported hearing a "thump" near Polwarth Crescent around 8am, followed by electricity going out briefly.

Fire engines were called to the scene of the incident shortly afterwards. The fire service said they were called out as a precaution and Scottish Power were dealing with the situation.

It's understood that power was restored to homes and businesses shortly afterwards. Affected areas included Polwarth, Slateford and Morningside.

SP Energy Networks tweeted: "Our control centre engineers have managed to restore power supplies after a power cut affecting EH3, EH10 & EH11. Apologies again."
