Edinburgh power cut: Homes across the city left with no electricity

Parts of Edinburgh are currently experiencing a power cut leaving thousands of homes without electricity.

Scottish Power apologised to customers in the EH11 and EH12 postcodes after an unexpected interruption in service on Wednesday.

The energy giant said it had received “no advance notice” of any disruption to the supply, but added engineers were now working to restore power.

Homes in the Broomhouse, Saughton and Stenhouse areas of EH11 are among those to be affected.

Experts are now working locally and remotely to restore the supply, however warned it could be more than an hour before it returns in certain areas.

A statement from Scottish Power read: "There is power cut in the EH11 and EH12 postcode areas of Edinburgh. We had no advance warning of this and only became aware of it at 7:08am.

"Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and our engineers are on their way to the local area.

"Our team will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 9:15am. Once they arrive, or when we receive any update regarding the cause, we will be able to provide you with more information."

It added: "We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
