Edinburgh police warning after people try to park at Hillend Ski Centre despite 'stay at home' rules

Police have urged people to stay at home unless it is for essential purposes after having to "remind" locals that Midlothian Snowsports Centre was closed.

Officers warned drivers that the car parks at the snowsports centre were still closed and added that the best way to stay safe is to stay at home.

It comes after Edinburgh police stepped up patrols at the Pentlands due visitors flocking to the area during lockdown, with residents complaining that "hundreds" of cars were parking near the beauty spot despite level four shutdown.

Pictures obtained by Edinburgh Live last month showed hundreds of parked cars clogging up the Balerno area.

Police Sergeant Michele Lindsay of the Lothians and Scottish Borders Division said: "Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Biggar Road Hillend, Edinburgh is still currently closed with car parks also closed to members of the public. I would like to remind people, you should not leave home unless for essential purposes. The best way to stay safe is to stay at home.

"The Chief Constable has made it clear that our approach throughout the pandemic has not changed. Police Scotland officers will continue to support people to follow the regulations and encourage them to take personal responsibility.
