Edinburgh police tape off city centre street after assault on 40-year-old man

Edinburgh police have cordoned off a stretch of pavement in the Pleasance area of the capital following an assault on a male.

Officers say that the incident took place at around 6:20pm on Wednesday January 25 and that they were called to South Bridge to respond to a report of an assault on a 40-year-old man.

Emergency services remained at the scene of the alleged crime at 9:00pm on Wednesday evening.

One resident captured images of the response with a police officer and van spotted outside the Burrito’n’Shake eatery.

Blue and white police tape was in place from outside the restaurant all the way to the end of the neighbouring Edinburgh Heritage.com shop.

The street looked relatively calm in the picture shared with Edinburgh Live and police say that the man was taken to hospital for treatment on his injuries.

It is understood that pedestrian access to the aforementioned businesses is still blocked off by the police tape whilst officers respond to the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.20pm on Wednesday, 25 January, police were called to the Pleasance area of Edinburgh, following a report of the assault of a man nearby at South Bridge.

"The man, aged 40, was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. Enquiries are ongoing.”
