Edinburgh police spotted combing grounds of Holyrood Palace for 'explosive device'

Police officers have been captured on camera carrying out searches in the grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse this afternoon.

In the images, cops were seen carrying long sticks, using the tools to methodically comb both the forecourt and grass outside the building in Holyrood.

Other officers looked down drains and underneath cars, while some officers were seen putting items into clear plastic bags.

A number of police vehicles were stationed outside several entrances to the palace while the searches were carried out.

The Palace of Holyroodhouse is the Queen's official residence in Edinburgh.
