Edinburgh police solve mystery of blood-stained 'baby hat' found on Costorphine Hill

Edinburgh Police closed off Costorphine Hill on Tuesday 20 October after the discovery of a "blood stained item".

An eyewitness told Edinburgh Live how they saw seven or eight Police Scotland vehicles in the area earlier on Tuesday near Kaimes Road.

According to reports in the Daily Record, a walker discovered 'a blood-soaked baby's hat.'

But after examinations on the item were carried out by police, it has been confirmed that the item was soaked in 'animal blood.'

Edinburgh police have now closed enquiries and say that 'no criminality' was found.

Edinburgh Police said in a statement: "Around 9.35am on Tuesday, 20 October, officers were called to Corstorphine Hill, Edinburgh after a blood-stained item of clothing was found by a member of the public.

"The item was analysed and it has now been confirmed that the blood is from an animal.
