Edinburgh police release CCTV images of man and woman after city centre attack

Police have released CCTV images of two people they want to trace in connection with a probe into an alleged attack that left a woman being hospitalised in the centre of Edinburgh.

The 31-year-old was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with a serious head injury following the incident on Market Street in December last year.

Officers and ambulance personnel attended the scene shortly after 11:20pm on Sunday, December 12 and later issued an appeal for a man and woman thought to be in the area at around the same time to come forward.

Investigators have now released security images of the pair, later spotted on Jeffrey Street heading towards the Royal Mile a short time afterwards.

The man is described as being white, in his mid-30s, around 5’9 in height, with a medium build and short, dark hair.

He was thought to be wearing a grey/blue padded jacket, two tone blue hooded jumper and blue jeans and was carrying an orange Sainsbury’s bag and cream-coloured baseball cap at the time of the reported attack.

The woman is also thought to be white and in her mid-30’s, around 5’5 and of small build.

She was wearing a knee length black padded jacket with the hood up and had small-framed glasses.

Detective Constable Gary Lipscombe, from Edinburgh CID, said: “I would urge the male and female, or anyone who has information relating to the male and female, depicted in these images to make contact with the police.

“Members of the public can contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 3829 of 12 December, 2021. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
