Edinburgh police race to serious bypass crash as drivers experience long delays

Emergency services have raced to an incident on the City Bypass after a serious collision.

The crash on the A720 is said to have involved four vehicles, with police still at the scene on Thursday evening.

Drivers in the area are now experiencing a number of long queues and delays after the RTC took place just before 5pm.

One lane has been closed on the bypass as emergency services work to clear the road, according to the Record.

In a warning to motorists, Traffic Scotland reported: “Lane 2 of 2 is closed westbound after the Sheriffhall Roundabout due to a multi-vehicle RTC.”

Pictures shown live from the traffic cameras in the area have shown huge gridlocked queues, with traffic moving at a slow pace near the roundabout.

In an update at 5:15pm, Traffic Scotland confirmed the incident is not yet over.

They said: “Lane 2 of 2 remains closed westbound after the Sheriffhall Roundabout due to a multi-vehicle RTC.

“TRISS and emergency services are on scene and traffic is queuing back to Millerhill.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson:“Around 4.55pm on Thursday, 24 June, we received a report of a four-vehicle crash on the A720, Edinburgh by-pass at Sherriffhall roundabout.
