Edinburgh police race to scene after cyclist seriously injured in road crash tonight

Edinburgh police race to scene after a cyclist crashed on a busy road this evening.

A bystander described how emergency services attended when the cyclist hit a pothole at the inside of the roundabout junction in Gilmerton.

The cyclist was heading south at the roundabout between Station Road and Lasswade Road when the incident occurred.

The bystander described seeing the injured man being loaded into an ambulance.

Police Scotland told Edinburgh Live they attended the scene earlier this evening.

A spokesperson said: "Around 5.50pm police were called to a report of a man injured after he fell off his bike on Gilmerton Station Road.

"He has been taken by Ambulance to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh."

Traffic on the road was initially held up but is now believed to be running normally.

Further details of the man's identity or injuries are not available at this stage.
