Edinburgh police make arrests and issue multiple fines after 'illegal funeral wake'

Police were called to a property at Shandwick Place last night after reports of a mass gathering despite current Covid regulations.

It is understood that cops attended a 'funeral wake' at around d 10.20pm on Thursday, 15 April, 2021, reports the Scottish Sun.

Three men were arrested and another 12 guests were hit with fixed penalty notices by police.

Indoor household visits are still not allowed across Scotland under Covid restrictions, with Scots only allowed to meet in groups of up to six people from six different households outdoors.

A police spokesperson said: “Police were called around 10.20pm on Thursday, 15 April, 2021 following the report of a breach of coronavirus regulations at a property in Shandwick Place Edinburgh.

“Officers attended and three men aged 32, 34, and 37 were arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear at court at a later date.

“There was a further 12 fixed penalty notices issued.”
