Edinburgh police launch huge manhunt for man spotted on roofs of upmarket apartments

Edinburgh police launched a huge manhunt after a man was spotted hiding on the roofs of upmarket townhouses.

Police helicopters were hovering at Gladstone Terrace in The Grange and scores of officers were milling around on the ground yesterday morning as locals reported seeing a man hiding on the roofs and in shrubbery as officers gave chase.

One woman posted online saying: “Anyone in Edinburgh know what the massive police operation is this morning? It’s literally in the back garden of my flats.

"Dogs, helicopters, tons of police and firemen. Seems to be something about a man hiding in the shrubbery but not sure.”

A woman replied shortly after: “Not sure if you’re up to date but there was a man who had “absconded” ended up on the roofs. (I’m Gladstone Terrace).”

Police Scotland told Edinburgh Live that they attended the scene yesterday morning to execute a warrant but the suspect has not been arrested yet.

A spokesperson said: “Officers in Edinburgh executed a warrant for a man believed to be within a flat on Gladstone Terrace around 9.15am on Sunday, 21 November.

“Enquiries are ongoing to trace the 26-year-old man and specialist police resources are involved in the search.”

Edinburgh Live have asked Police Scotland to be updated and will bring you any developments on the story as they break.
