Edinburgh police hunt van driver that fled scene after bypass smash

Police in Edinburgh have launched appealed after a van driver fled the scene following a collision with a car.

Officers are looking to trace the individual after a collision on the City Bypass on Thursday (May 6).

According to police, a black BMW and a white van were involved in the minor crash on the A720. However, the van driver quickly sped off following the smash.

Both vehicles were driving eastbound when the white Renault van cut in from lane two to lane one and hit the BMW, causing damage to vehicle.

Thankfully, the driver of the BMW and a teenage passenger both escaped uninjured from the collision.

Now, police hope to trace the van driver, with anyone who has any information urged to contact the station on 101.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Police said: "Anyone who was driving on the A720 on Thursday evening and could have dash cam footage of the incident, or who saw either vehicle prior too, or after the collision, if asked to contact officers.

"The driver of the van is asked to contact police as soon as possible. Those who can help should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 2417 of 6 May."
