Edinburgh police fine 26 drivers and tow three cars away during Pentlands parking crackdown

Cops issued 26 fines and towed three cars in a crackdown on bad parking at Flotterstone over the weekend.

Officers say 13 advisory letters were also sent out to motorists, while one person was hit with a fixed penalty for breaching coronavirus regulations.

Midlothian Police say they carried out "mobile patrols" in Flotterstone, at Midlothian Snowsports Centre, Biggar Road and Hillend on Saturday and Sunday. This was in response to complaints about people parking on clearways, roads and pavements, causing obstructions and putting pedestrians at risk.

Edinburgh Live reported at the weekend how people had been flocking to local beauty spots for some fresh air during the winter lockdown. This resulted in large numbers of vehicles being seen parked at both Cramond and near the Pentland Hills.

Police say people are reminded that they should not be leaving the house unless for essential purposes.

Inspector Jim Robertson, Lothians and Scottish Borders Division, said: “People should not leave their home unless for essential purposes. The best way to stay safe is to stay at home.

"The Chief Constable has already made it clear that our approach throughout the pandemic has not changed. Police Scotland officers will continue to support people to follow the regulations and encourage them to take personal responsibility.

"We have increased patrols in our communities to explain the regulations and to encourage people to do the right thing. Where officers encounter wilful breaches they will act decisively to enforce the law.

"The vast majority of people have stepped up to take responsibility and our determination and collective effort to tackle this virus must now continue in the difficult times ahead.”
