Edinburgh police catch hapless driver 'stopping to roll a cigarette' on bypass

Edinburgh police have publicly shamed a driver who stopped on the city bypass to 'roll a cigarette'.

Cops issued the hapless motorist with a fixed penalty notice after spotting him break the law.

Police offers saw the static vehicle on the Gogar slip road ,that joins the A720, yesterday evening and at first thought the driver had broken down.

But upon investigation, police claim the owner of the grey vehicle had stopped because they thought it was 'an appropriate place to roll a cigarette.'

Posting about the incident on social media Police Scotland said: "#EdinburghRP thought they had come across a broken down vehicle on the A720 this evening at the Gogar on slip.

"It transpired that the driver thought this was an appropriate place to stop and roll a cigarette. Driver issued with a conditional offer for careless driving."

The news comes we reported how Edinburgh cops were busy clamping and towing away vehicles as part a crack down on abandoned and untaxed cars.

Leith community officers were out acting on complaints from members of the public, with five cars uplifted and a further four clamped. One driver was also charged with road traffic offenses.
