Edinburgh police called to woods near city street after suspicious package found

Emergency services were called to a wooded area close to an Edinburgh street after a suspicious package was found this morning.

Police were called to the woods behind Hutchison Avenue, in the Slateford area, after they were tipped off about a suspect item in the area.

Eye-witnesses told Edinburgh Live there was a heavy police presence nearby for much of the day, with surrounding roads taped off as officers investigated.

One person described how there were "officers everywhere" including those in white forensic suits.

Police have confirmed that the package was removed and checked by specialist teams, and no criminality was established.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40am on Thursday, 29 July, officers attended a wooded area behind Hutchison Avenue following information received about a suspicious package.

“The package was removed and examined by specialist officers.

“No criminality was established and there was no danger to the public.”
