Edinburgh players run off after police break up 11-a-side football game in park

Police were called to an Edinburgh park this weekend to break up a football game as players flouted lockdown restrictions.

Two people were fined after officers arrived to put an end to the "11-a-side" football game in Inverleith Park on Sunday afternoon, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.

A local told the paper he was told “to move off” their pitch and had attempted to challenge them but was outnumbered.

He added that the individuals made no attempt to follow social distancing guidance and claimed they didn't care.

Under the current "stay at home" Scottish Government guidance, permitted outdoor exercise includes walking, cycling, golf, or running in groups of up to two people, plus any children under 12, from no more than two households.

Exercise can start and finish at a place in your local authority area, or up to five miles from its boundary.

Most of the players reportedly ran away when officers arrived but Police Scotland confirmed two people were slapped with fines.
