The 500 home residential development will lie to the southwest and west of the Gogar Castle.

Central to the new site will be a proposed commercial development, featuring various shops and landscaping.

The development will be the latest build on the West Craig Masterplan.

Upon completion there will be at least 1700 new homes, a new primary school, nursery, health centre, café, two 5 acre public parks and woodland.

The developers are at the very early stages of planning and have submitted only the Environmental Impact Assessment but a full planning application is expected to follow.

The site is located in the west of Edinburgh, near to Edinburgh Airport.

To the north of the site lies the existing operational area of the airport terminal building, the airport’s short and long stay car parks and associated airport infrastructure.

The north-eastern edge of the proposed development site immediately abuts the Gogar Burn Nature Conservation Site.

The eastern part of the site, to the north of Gogar roundabout, will be smaller and is expected to contain the access road.

Edinburgh council are also considering a separate application for an access road.

The Gogar Link Road will serve to create a new active travel route and vehicular access into the site.

The developers say that they new site would increase the local population.

A spokesperson said: “The development proposals will provide up to 500 new residential units, a small commercial site of 1.5 acres in size and with associated infrastructure and landscape works which will increase the population in the local area.

"Residents will be well served by existing medical practices, education, community facilities, public transport, green space, and active travel routes in the west of Edinburgh via developments such as Maybury, Cammo, Edinburgh Park, The Gyle and IBG.”

A decision is expected from Edinburgh council in the coming weeks.
