Edinburgh plane: Footage shows aircraft carrying huge 'resign Sturgeon' banner above city

An aeroplane carrying a huge banner reading "resign Sturgeon" has been circling Edinburgh this afternoon.

The stunt was organised by anti-nationalist group The Majority.

The aircraft was seen and heard above part of Leith shortly after 2pm on Friday, and appeared to depart the city and head north around 2.15pm.

The Majority say they launched a #ResignSturgeon campaign on Friday with a billboard carrying the message also on display next to Jewson on Slateford Road. Billboards are also on display in Glasgow and Aberdeen, while the aeroplane is expected to fly over Glasgow from 3pm this afternoon.

The First Minister this week faced calls to resign over the Alex Salmond inquiry.

Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross led the calls, which first came ahead of Sturgeon's appearance in front of MSPs on Wednesday.

Sturgeon said she "deeply regrets" the Scottish Government's botched investigation into Salmond, but defended herself against accusations she misled parliament.
