Edinburgh pensioner says youths 'looked straight at her' before throwing eggs at car

A woman in Morningside has spoken out after her car was egged by school children.

Currently on Easter break, the young men were spotted throwing eggs at various vehicles on Springvalley Gardens. Kathleen Grandison, 73, said the youths looked straight at her before vandalising her car while she sat in it.

This comes after another local resident spotted young people on Canaan Lane throwing glass bottles. On Monday night, two young men were also filmed vandalising Meadowbank Sports Centre.

Kathleen told us: "They need to know it's not okay to do this sort of thing.

"I am a very fit 73-year-old and it was not a big deal to me but someone older might have got a real fright. They looked straight at me sitting in the car then fired the egg into the windscreen.

"I jumped out and went after them but they of course ran off."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We continue to work with partner agencies to help tackle anti-social behaviour and have undertaken preventative work within the local area to limit opportunities for such incidents.

“Where instances do occur we would encourage these to be reported to officers via 101 so that we can investigate accordingly.”
