Edinburgh park dubbed 'Glastonbury' as huge crowds flout Covid rules for second night

Huge crowds have once again descended on a park in Edinburgh for the second night in a row despite lockdown rules as temperatures soar.

Residents are once again voicing their frustration this evening after the Meadows was turned into, what one local described as, "Glastonbury".

Alongside a photo of the packed park taken earlier this evening, local William Sutcliffe said: "Everyone in Edinburgh is really looking forward to the moment when more than two people are allowed to congregate outside."

Pictures shared on social media from the popular park show similar scenes to last night, when groups of "Covidiots" flocked there for a "massive Paddy’s Day rave".

In a video sent to Edinburgh Live last night, brazen rule-breakers could be seen gathering in large groups across the city centre park despite the strict lockdown rules that are in place.

It comes as temperatures were set to soar to 16 degrees in the capital today, with the city seeing one of its hottest days so far this year.

Under the current rules, only up to four adults from two households are allowed to meet outdoors, this includes in private gardens, for recreational purposes as well as exercise.

Frustrated locals have also hit out at the mess left behind by the crowds, with one writing: "Meadows trashed again. There's a lack of bins and an excess of drunk people."

Despite this, police revealed they would not be issuing any fines last night, stating: "Officers attended and are aware of concerns and would encourage the public to adhere to current government guidelines. There have been no fixed penalty notices issued.

“Regular patrols will remain in the area.”

It's unclear if this will remain the case tonight. Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
