The city's 2011/2012 school session registration week begins today, and education chiefs are keen to ensure nobody misses out.

Parents of children who will be five years old before 29 February should register this week for a primary school place.

The council advises parents to contact schools directly to find out which day they will be registering pupils.

Parents should go along to the school with their council tax assessment letter, a recent utility bill and their child's birth certificate.

A placement request for a specific school from outside of its catchment area can also be made at the time of registration. The application forms for primary and secondary schools can be downloaded at at this link and must be returned by 24 December.

* Maps of all the primary school catchment areas can be seen at this link.

* Secondary school catchment boundary maps can be seen at this link.

* City-wide catchment maps for non-denomination schools and RC schools can be found here.

Letters will be issued by pupil post from mid-November to parents of primary seven pupils to confirm the secondary school serving their home address. No further action is normally required if a child is to attend the catchment secondary school.
