Edinburgh parents take children to watch youths target motorists with fireworks

Shocking footage uploaded to social media shows parents and young children gathering in an Edinburgh neighbourhood as masked youths aim fireworks at cars on Bonfire Night.

Carnage unfolded in the Niddrie and Duddingston area of Edinburgh on Saturday night, with groups of youths riding off-road bikes along busy roads, aiming fireworks and projectiles at pedestrians and motorists.

Emergency services were also targeted during the rampage which saw petrol bombs aimed at officers and riot police dispersed while the area was locked down.

Shocking footage on Snapchat shows groups of bikers gathered at the side of Niddrie Mains Road while fireworks are aimed at vehicles as they wreak havoc across the community.

Along with the video, young children can be heard in the background as large groups gathered to film the horrifying incident. A large bonfire was also lit in the middle of the road as motorists were forced to avoid the area and dodge pyrotechnics.

Police Scotland have confirmed that 12 people have been arrested in connection with incidents in the area and enquiries will remain ongoing in the coming days and weeks.

A spokesperson said: "An hour later, within the Duddingston area of The Capital, a number of police vehicles had petrol bombs thrown at them by a number of youths. There were also incidents of roads being barricaded by the suspects, which required police to attend and deal with. There were no injuries reported during these incidents."

Residents described the scenes caused by feral youths as a "warzone" as chaos descended on the capital on Bonfire Night. The footage also shows bikers taking it in turns riding up and down the road armed with fireworks.
