Edinburgh pals set out on 50k walk to raise much needed cash for capital's homeless

After a visit to town last week left them worried about homeless people in the city, two young boys have decided there's something they can do to help.

Determined to do something good in lockdown, local lads Finlay and Corey have decided to raise some much needed cash to help homeless people in the capital.

Best pals Finlay and Corey started their challenge on Wednesday, and along with Finlay's gran Pauline they plan to walk 50k in 50 days.

Finlay, 10, from Whitson, has been friends with pal Corey, also 10, from Stenhouse, for years, and with the schools shut and lockdown still in place, they've decided to do something positive.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, beaming Gran Pauline said how proud she was to hear her grandson and his friend, both 10, so concerned about other people that they were moved to do something.

Speaking with Pauline about what they could do to help, the boy's suggested asking people for money so they could buy food, clothes and sleeping bags.

But she explained that usually people have to do something to be sponsored, rather than people just handing money over.

"We decided from the 20 January [until 20 February] they would try and walk 50k each, and then we are going to ask all our friends and family and anyone with a wee business if they could donate to them," she said on Facebook.

And before they even took off this afternoon the boys had raised over £1000 for kind hearted locals and family members keen to help out and cheers them on.
