Edinburgh pair rescued after inflatable boat spotted adrift off the coast at Portobello

Members of a local yacht club helped rescue two people lost at sea near Edinburgh.

The rescue effort was called in by the coastguard yesterday at around 7:30pm when the inflatable boat was spotted adrift near the coast of Portobello, north of Joppa, Edinburgh.

Kinghorn Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) sent out a rescue craft but it was soon called down.

The press officer for the Kinghorn RNLI, Neil Chalmers, explained: “We we were called across to Portobello just after 7:30pm yesterday to a reports of a dingy a mile off shore.

“Our boat proceeded across but on the way we received notice that a boat from Fisherrow Yacht Club from Musselburgh was already in the water and was escorting the dingy to safety.

“The RNLI crew then stood down and thankfully all ended up okay.”

Edinburgh Live have contacted Fisherrow Yacht Club for comment on their rescue effort.

Fisherrow say they are a friendly local sailing club. They cater for yacht and dinghy sailors, boat owners and non-owners, beginners and experts, and new members are always welcome.

Kinghorn Lifeboat Station is an RNLI funded and operated rescue station on the coast of Fife, three miles from Kirkcaldy and across the Forth estuary from Edinburgh.
