Edinburgh otter found stuck under car bonnet in unusual SSPCA rescue mission

An otter in Edinburgh got himself well and truly stuck under a car bonnet, sparking an unusual SSPCA rescue mission.

The creature had been 'spooked' by nearby residents while trying to dash to an Edinburgh pond and wedged himself inside the car to hide.

SSPCA officers Darren and Sarah attended the scene after the alarm was raised by concerned locals.

Fortunately the rescue mission was a quick one, as when the animal-saving pair opened the car to free the animal, the terrified otter managed to make his escape on his own and darted off.

The otter is believed to be uninjured despite his escapades

The SSPCA said: "When Sarah and Darren opened the bonnet, it turned out the otter didn’t need their help as he shot out of there and ran away as fast as he could!

"Because of his speed, Sarah and Darren were unable to give him a thorough check over, but it is unlikely he was injured as there is no way he could have made his getaway if he was.

"We haven’t had any more calls from anyone in the area, so hopefully he has returned to the wild unscathed from his ordeal.

"If anyone spots a trapped or injured animal, please contact our helpline on 03000 999 999."
